The famous iPhone - our first encounter…
We happened to be in the US when the iPhone launched! Well. We won’t be able to get one for months, and trying it out really made us wanting it even more… Here - take a look at our first test of it.
We talked about it while leaving the store - how incredible it is to match the enormous expectations that has been set for this phone!? No other technical device that I know of has ever gotten this kind of attention. They had ten minute COUNT DOWN until the shops opened on the TV news channel we saw, with different reporters covering it from all over the country! That was just the channel that happened to be watching. Ten minutes of pure editorial advertisement! Fantastic. How does he do it?
And then it arrives - and just lives up to it all.
Ahhh. It is soo sexy. It is soo beautiful. The motions, the navigation, the applications - I am in awe. Me want one. Me want one so bad…
Here many are sceptical to the fact that you can’t choose your network provider, but are locked in with AT&T. I wonder what they will do back home in Norway. Does anyone know?
A lot of people were skeptical to the lack of keyboard on the phone. It pretty much has just one button, in addition to the volume button on the side. I was impressed. The phone is very responsive. The way you browse, the way you zoom in, use single click, double click, double touch to zoom in and out (veeery cool), slide in all directions… It really felt like Tom Cruise in Minority Report… You swoosh around in your picture albums, your music. Yeah. It was nice. I just want one.
The web browser, that we did not film unfortunately, was maybe the most impressive thing. It was so easy and so nice to browse on that phone! The website loads in a normal way, just being a lot smaller than normal. You just double click on the things you want to focus on and it zooms in on that. From there you just use your fingers to navigate around. It was very easy to hit the link buttons and in general, it was just a fun experience. The map functionality gives you route description (with current traffic color coding - at least in LA), and can guide you somewhat similar to a GPS.
One should think I was paid to say all of this. That is how Apple make money. They make us rant and rave about their products. Because they are brilliant.
So - tell me. Are you planning on getting one?

The only way I could me more jealous, was if you actually bought one. You didn’t, did you? Please say you didn’t…
No, we didn’t unfortunately. We couldn’t. No one in the store. And I think it is a good idea to wait until it is “fitted” for the Norwegian/European market.
Karianne - I’ve got one - it works - I’m calling (with Telenor) - happy and sync’d - - thanks to all the hackers….
OMG!!!!!!! You lucky bastard! We need to meet up, so you can prove it to me! Ahhh… The future is bright… :)
